By the end of January, the professionals had cleared out the main floors of the house, leaving only the basement filled with lots of old stuff. But rather than have someone else clear all that out, we went down in there and realized that this was a unique opportunity to fix up some things that had always been ignored.

To wit: What kind of holes are in that wall behind the electrical panel?

Can we fix all the broken stairs and loose masonry? (It’s been a pretty treacherous walk down in the darkness from the side porch.)

Can we make better use of that cool cement laundry sink? (Maybe we move it outside and make a little area for washing off gardening tools and muddy boots…)

All of which meant we’d need a place to work from. So we cleared out the basement, took out all the wires and pipes overhead, and all the old junk underfoot. We swept up all the mess. And then I rebuilt a larger work table and added a big honkin’ peg board.
There, that’s better. Now we can bring the tools over and really get to work down here.
